(Not)To-Do List

People tend to think that making 'To-Do List' is one of the most efficient way to make your life more simple and organised. However in the process of making this 'To-Do List', driven probably by our ambition, we tend to overexploit the potential of this list by fulfilling it with tons of tasks, even the smallest one, without focusing only on the urgent one. In consequence, this overwhelming number of tasks, needed to be accomplished, influencing discouragingly on our motivation and enthusiasm, start to be perceived by us more as a 'List of things that we want to avoid at all cost'. That is why, overpowered by the fear of the failure, we tend to abandon this multitask-challenge, thinking that the weakness is actually in us and not in the wrong strategy. Thus, some people came with an idea of 'rebuilding' this 'To-Do List' method and on the basis of it they have created a new version of it, so-called: 'Not-To-Do List.' Here, unlike to 'To-Do List', we don't focus on our obligations, tasks that we NEED to or HAVE to do but we list things which we DON'T WANT to do. In that way we recreate our priorities by putting the happiness and the comfort of our life on the first place. It doesn't mean of course quitting your job or school when you it find boring. It is more about cutting out distractions, unproductive activities or bad habits that take our time, energy and move us away from reaching our finish line (goals).

So, instead of writing on your list:
I need to :
  • Do the shopping
  • Do the washing-up
  • Write an essay
  • Do exercises
  • Feed a cat
Write:
Priorities for today:
  • Don't eat sugar (too much)
  • Don't be late for a tram
  • Don't multitask
  • Don't check my smartphone every minute
  • Don't worry about details
So simple and how effective! :)
