The
biographies of great sportsmen can be really interesting to discover
because they constitute a source of inspiration for us by ascending
how an ordinary men have become someone extraordinary by fighing,
thanks to the sport which constitutes their source of power, all
their weaknesses. I will present below two exciting examples of great
sportsmen's lives who decided to use the sport to overcome the
physical limits of the body but also social obstacles.
Jerzy
Górski
The
first person is Jerzy Górski, a Polish thriathlete who in 1990 won
the gold medal in the Double Iron Thrialton, which by its nature is
twice as hard to accomplish as the traditional thriatlon. However,
the victory of Jerzy Górski is so fascinating because before
practicing the sport professionally he was addicted to drugs and
because of it his health was in the terrible condition that nobody
gave him a chance to survive. Nevertheless, as he mentioned in one
interview, thanks to the sport he began to become more and more
vigorous and that gave him the power to fight against addiction and
hope to win another chance for a better life.
Jack
Johnson
The second person is Jack Johnson, an American boxer and the first black boxer who in 1910 became world champion in heavyweight. But his victory is all the more exceptional as at the time when rasism triumphed, the Black could face white opponents in all categories, except that of heavyweight, considered o be the most pre-eminent. However, Jonson broke this taboo when he won the fight with American boxer in 1910 - James Jeffries, the representative of the White. Unfortunately the result of the fight was not recognized by the referee but this event, named 'The fight of the century' is significant in the history because it constituted the symbolic victory of the Black on the White in their fight against rasism.
